Of all the Oscar tumbles this shot of Ang Lee is my favorite (at In and Out burger) We celebrated Oscar night in our apt by vying for a Starbucks gift card with our Oscar predictions. I won, because I successfully guessed 10/15. (This was fitting because I had organized the whole thing and purchased the card to begin with.) Luckily, my roommates are well-acquainted with my eccentric craft projects so when I asked them to wear paper ties (that I made so they would meet the Oscars black tie dress code standards) they consented.

Also new Ann Arbor discovery conveniently located next to the thrift shop: this awesome charcuterie/artisanal beer shop: biercamp! Almost makes me want to renounce veganism but for now I’ll eschew the burgers but enjoy a fresh I.P.A!

Thrift shopping in Ann Arbor. What better way to spend a Saturday? (P.S. gonna have to stay away from this coat, but it’s a great Macklemore tribute.)

I learned something new this week: how surprisingly easy it is to stuff a mushroom! The caps make great holders for other veggies. This one is stuffed with kale, onions and tomatoes.

What’s the one thing girls at the University of Michigan love to do for the holidays? Make T-Shirts. After four years of college I have stacks and stacks of sorority and club t-shirts for almost every occasion: football games, Christmas parties, greek week… I even have one (at the height of apparel-creating excessiveness) that was made for a field trip to (wait for it)… Detroit.

So in the spirit of embracing this ridiculous college tradition my roommates and I are making Saint Patrick’s day t-shirts to celebrate in. Since none of us are quite sure what the holiday actually commemorates (but note to self: garner that information before March 17) our t-shirts are going to feature this design I made, a graffiti of our apt number (and ink drawing number three in my resolution to draw more series).

Are We Still Living in 1993?

I feel about New York Magazine now the way I felt about Nickelodeon Magazine when I was eight years old (slightly fanatical obsession). New York provides articles about things that I always wanted to know more about, but I didn’t realize I was fascinated by until they arrived at the forefront of my attention in the form of New York’s glossy info-graphics. I loved the spread of this article about 1993 in the magazine- I’m not sure 1993 was the definitive turning point for modern history, but I’m happy to be convinced by the people at NY Mag.

It is always cool to see artists create new fonts!

Since we are east coasters and we recognize that it might be a while before we make it back to the Midwest after graduation, Sara and I are trying to capitalize on our experience by exploring as many cities nearby as we possibly can. Though we are Wolverines (University of Michigan mascot) we made it over yesterday to East Lansing: Michigan State territory, to see what exactly was going on over there, west of Ann Arbor.

Also, we were visiting with my friend Robert. He is Chelsea, NYC-born, but relocated to Iowa for college. It might sound shocking, but in truth his height does allow him to fit in better with the hearty corn-fed population than most of our shorter and more stereotypical New York City looking friends might (i.e. always in black and looking like they have never seen sunlight, existing only in the shadows of towering skyscrapers and the barely lit subways).

Robert was in Lansing for a Midwestern LBGT convention, but he took a break to see some East Lansing sights with Sara and me. In the end, I have to say that it was cooler than I’d expected given all the sports-ridden trash talk I’d been spoon fed by my friends in Ann Arbor. Their art museum was especially great, and their campus was a winter wonderland.

SPEAKING of bringing things together… I made this bizarre scrap creation the other day. Going stir crazy in your room can lead you to strange ends. Here are two ink drawings from my sketch book (left: copy of a Keith Haring print, right: copy of a Shel Silverstein illustration). I decided to weave them together - thus the photo above. I guess I was just curious what it would look like. Overall I think it would be an interesting idea if I had cut the pictures into SUPER thin strips, or if there was a little less negative space in each of them.
